The Place Restaurant and Bar, which opened in 1996, is a family owned and operated restaurant. We feature a northwest coastal cuisine with an emphasis on regional and local sustainable fish and shellfish. We lean towards European and Asian flavors in our preparations but strive to keep things simple and the quality standards high. The Place has received numerous favorable reviews from many guidebooks and food publications. Northwest Best Places gave us the highest rating for San Juan Island! Our recipes have been published in Bon Appetit magazine, the San Juan Classics cookbook, the K.C.T.S. cookbook, National Geographic, Northwest Best Places Desserts, The Chocolate Lovers Cookbook and requested from Gourmet magazine. Recent favorable reviews have appeared in the Seattle Times and the New York Times praised our roasted oysters and Pacific Rim bouillabaisse.
