SWC House Blend
This is the one they line up for every morning: a Colombian and Sumatran based blend with a heavy body and enough acidity to cut through the milk in a cappuccino. It makes a robust cup of Joe as well. We ‘re always tweaking our House Blend, making sure it matches up to our specifications even as the coffee crops change from year to year. There can be anywhere from five to seven different countries of origin in our blend: right now we have six. Our Colombian Reserva del Patron always makes up the bulk of the blend; it provides a smooth, rounded body. A big dose of Sumatran provides the earthy tone and long-lasting finish we look for in our espresso. A little bit of Ethiopian Yirgacheffe gives it enough acidity to really pop, and provides the sweet, slightly lemony flavors. We round it out with a little Guatemalan, Java, and Papua New Guinea. No matter what beans are currently making the cut, we constantly taste it in the cafes and out at the lab to make sure the flavors balance. SWC Decaf House Blend
When we set out to develop a decaf version of our house blend, we knew we would have to find beans that could stand up to the decaffeination process without losing their unique varietal flavors. We focused on the duo of washed Colombian and naturally processed Sumatran, letting the smooth and bright acidity of Colombian and earthy body of Sumatra play off each other in big, bold strokes. When decaffeinated with the chemical-free Swiss Water Process, our decaf House Blend keeps 99% of its flavor while losing 99% of its caffeine. Rocket Blend
If you’re looking for an espresso alternative to our house blend, this is for you. This four bean blend is sweet and smooth, packing plenty of flavor and complexity and a dry cocoa finish. Whether you’re using it as straight espresso or brewed coffee, it makes a great launchpad for your day. A big dose of Papua New Guinea makes up the backbone of this blend, which pairs well with our Sumatran Mandelheng to provide an earthy body. Guatemalan coffee from the Antigua region gives it its chocolate flavors and rounds out the middle, and just a little bit of naturally processed Ethiopian Harrar provides brightness and blueberry notes. Joker Poker Blend
Named after the 70’s pinball machine out at the roaster, you’re sure to hit the jackpot with Joker Poker. An amazingly smooth 2-bean blend with plenty of body and a slight, but just right, acidity, Joker Poker is a straightforward breakfast blend with just enough complexity to keep it interesting the rest of the day. Java makes two-thirds of this blend, and gives it a smooth and deep body. Our Guatemalan Antigua Flor de Café is processed by the La Minita estate, and adds a little brightness and floral sweetness, as well as the characteristic chocolate note of a good Guatemalan. Grumpy Monkey Blend
The bright flavors of Africa and the earthy base of our beloved Indonesians allowed us to create a blend worthy of the name we've been dying to use: Grumpy Monkey Blend®. The bright and assertive cup is a great mid-day drip coffee. The first sip offers bright cider notes, and a rich but short-lived mouthfeel. It ends with a light and slightly tannic profile. Tanzanian peaberry is the star of this blend. With its smaller, more intensely flavored beans, this coffee adds a lot of sharpness and red-wine acidity even though it makes up just a quarter of the blend. Our AA grade Papua New Guinea makes up the bulk of this blend, and lays down a full-bodied base for the lighter notes to play off of, while fair trade Peru adds a little sweetness to the mix. Black & Tan Blend
We’re very happy with our East Coast Roast style here at Small World Coffee. We love the flavors that develop when you roast to the point of full caramelization, and we’ve searched long and hard for beans that taste their best at that point; but sometimes, we wonder what’s waiting for us just past our normal roast. Sometimes, we have to take it to the dark side. For our Black and Tan, we split the blend evenly between a dark roasted, organic Mexican coffee and Indonesian coffee roasted to our traditional East Coast Roast. The Indonesian stalwarts of Sumatran and Bali provide a long-lasting body, and the dark roasted Mexico gives you a crisp and smoky flavor. Love Blend
Sometimes, blending coffees can be tricky. Beans that seem like they would work well together on paper just don’t play nice in the cup. But sometimes, everything just works exactly the way you want. The combo of Papua New Guinea, organically sourced Sumatran, and Guatemalan Antigua was love at first sip. The Love blend has a ton of body and smoothness, and just a little bit of sweet acidity to keep it interesting. Papua New Guinea makes up the majority of this blend, and has a clean flavor and long finish. Our naturally processed organic Sumatran provides dark fruit characteristics, and Guatemalan Antigua lends sweetness and cocoa to the blend. Indie Blend
If you’re looking for a smooth, easy drinking coffee with lots of body, then this is for you. Our Indie blend features three Indonesian coffees to give you a full sampling of what the region has to offer you. If you love going Indie as much as we do, then introduce your friends to it, and tell them you were drinking it before it was cool. Just don’t burn your tongue. Washed Papua New Guinea makes up two thirds of the blend, and gives a smooth and balanced flavor. Our naturally processed, organically sourced Sumatran is deep and earthy, and gives the blend a lingering finish and some woody notes. No. 5 Blend
In the days of the Traveling Circus, #5 was code for “good coffee ahead”. Our Number 5 blend is smooth, balanced, and, like a good circus, just a little surprising. It’s smooth at the start, full bodied and savory in the middle, and finishes slightly sweet. We love Number 5 because it’s great at breakfast, after dinner, or any time in between. Try it for yourself, and prepare to be astonished! Coffees from Guatemala, Peru, and Papua New Guinea come together in equal measure in this blend. Our Guatemalan comes from the Antigua region, where the unique climate and volcanic soil give the coffee a slightly smoky and chocolaty flavor. AA grade coffee from Papua New Guinea is full-bodied and rich, without being too heavy. Our Peru is comes from the northeastern Mendoza region, and has a nutty caramel flavor. Home Brew
We originally designed our house blend to work well as both espresso and brewed coffee, and we love the bright flavors that we get from it, but sometimes you want a cup of coffee that you can sip a little slower. For our home brew, we took the brighter African coffees out of the blend, and added a little more Indonesian to balance the flavor towards a more leisurely mouthfeel. Just like in the House Blend, you’ll notice the same combination of medium brightness from the colombian and big lingering body from the Sumatran. We’ve added more Papua New Guinea to give it a clean finish, Java for chocolate notes, and Peru for its sweetness. Before opening their restaurant, Scott and the team from Elements visited us at the Small World Roastery in Rocky Hill to create their own blend. They tasted their way around the coffee-growing world, and after multiple cuppings, this impressive blend of coffees from Java, Sumatra, and Guatemala was created. It has great flavor, amazing body, and just enough complexity to be exciting. The Elements Blend is a year round, after dinner, and social cup favorite. The rich body of this blend comes from the naturally processed Sumatran Mandelheng, with its characteristic earth notes. We love coffee from Papua New Guinea because it has it all, body, acidity, flavor and balance. This versatility means it works well as the base for a blend (such as in our Grumpy Monkey Blend® and Rocket Blend) but can also stand deliciously on its own. We are thrilled with our latest offering which comes from the Korona Plantation in the Kalnantu Province of the Eastern Highlands. Crispy Hippie
When our friends and neighbors at Whole Earth asked us for something new, we found this organically sourced, high grown, and rainforest alliance certified bean from Oaxaca, Mexico. To make it even more distinctive, we decided to forgo our standard East Coast Roast and take this bean darker than any other coffee we sell. It’s earth-conscious, and it’s totally crunchy, dude. Since it’s grown at such high altitudes, our Mexican Oaxaca is a very dense bean. That density means we can push it further when roasting, and take it past caramelization and into carbonization.
