Provenance
Provenance: prov e nance (prov-e-nans); from Old French: to originate; from Latin: provenire; from English: where something originated or was nurtured in its early existence.
The provenance of OBJECTS antiques shop is linked to the background and career of its creator, Sharon Perry Wise.
Wise was born in Texas, but her early years were spent in Mexico City surrounded by its exotic indigenous colors and climate and the Old World influence of colonial architecture and art. Her mother owned a well known design shop in the Zona Rosa shopping district and outings to furniture workshops, fabric weavers and silk screen artists were common events in her family's life. While in Mexico she attended the Lycée Franais school, which gave her a rigorous foundation in French language and culture and was the preamble for the next chapter of her life.
After Mexico, Wise's family re-located to Europe and she attended boarding school in Switzerland. School life in the Swiss Alps alternated with family vacations throughout Europe.
These trips included exploration of the art and architecture of different regions and fostered an ease with foreign languages and cultures. For college, life brought her back full circle to Texas where she attended Rice University and studied architecture, history of art and French. This was followed by graduate work at Harvard where she achieved a Master's degree in architecture.
After graduate school, Wise moved back to Houston and in 1979 co-founded her first design firm,
which built a diverse architectural and interior design practice that included commercial, residential and hospitality projects. In 1991 Wise separated her practice from the partnership and moved to Ferndale Street under the name Perry & Associates, where she narrowed her focus to work exclusively on high-end residential projects. Her approach to home design has been holistic and her skills and experience have given her an understanding of all aspects of the projects, from construction through interior installation and accessorizing.
As part of her interior design work, Wise made frequent buying trips throughout the United States and to Europe and assisted her clients in finding and purchasing antiques.
With her design offices already located in the antiques district of Upper Kirby, the addition of a shop was a complement to Wise's design business and the shop, OBJECTS, was opened in 2009 after several years of stockpiling inventory. Wise's philosophy is that beautiful spaces are the sum of large scale planning and attention to the smallest details. In her shop she has collected an array of furniture and accessories that are the type of finishing touches that she brings to her own award winning work.
