Blake Hawkins opened the doors of Hug-Hes in 1988 after working with the Gastronomy Corporation. Originally, the decor of Hug-Hes followed a European flavor. The most common question about Hug-Hes is, "Where did the name came from. The story goes Blake's father-in-law, Reed Gardner Hughes, as a young man worked as an FBI agent back East for a period of time. He and his wife Jean found it common for Easterners to mispronounce Hughes, "Hug-Hes." Over forty years later, when it came time to pick a name Blake's sister-in-law said why don't you call it Hug-Hes.
