About Us

In 2004, two brothers from Portland embarked on a gastronomic tour, eating their way across America’s finest diners, barbecue fests, soul food joints, and fish frys. They journeyed from one out-of-the-way eatery to the next, seeking the simple perfection of everyday regional dishes served in establishments where original recipes are still made from scratch. Their goal was to learn how a good neighborhood restaurant becomes a food institution; the type of place that a friend tells a friend not to miss.
In 2006, the brothers established Hot Suppa! in an 1860 brick Victorian on Portland’s West End. Featuring high ceilings, brick walls, and original moldings, the unique character of the building provides a complimentary setting for the American classics they offer.
Inspired by the best of the fare they sampled on the tour, the menu at Hot Suppa! is all made from scratch from quality ingredients; local goods are used whenever possible. Our renowned breakfast and lunch are served seven days a week, so you can get that corned beef hash fix whenever you’re jonesing. Dinner is available five nights a week, featuring our favorite dishes, like Cajun jambalaya, falafel salad, and Maine oysters on the half shell. We offer a full bar service if you care to relax into the evening with a Porch Swing cocktail, or recover in the morning with a spicy Bloody Mary or cold draft beer.
So if you get a hankering for some simple, affordable food done right, head up to 703 on the Congo, slide into a booth, warm your hands on a hot mug, and discover one of the locals’ most addictive secrets - Hot Suppa!
