Mission Statement
For over 30 years, Evergreen Nutrition has filled the role of an exceptional health resource for our community.
Evergreen Nutrition believes that knowledge is the key to health and we empower the good health of our customers with that knowledge.
Meet Our Staff
Terri Williams BS CCN
Terri has been certified as a clinical nutritionist for 12 years. Her certification comes through the International and American Association of Clinical Nutritionists. I really enjoy helping people achieve optimal health with lifestyle changes diet, exercise, stress reduction and the use of the correct supplements.
Craig Williams
Craig is a 17-year veteran of the Evergreen staff and most of you have probably never seen him. As chief bean counter and all around good guy he tends to hang out in the back a lot.
Paula Hegarty
Paula became interested in herbs and natural living as a teenager when she bought a copy of Jethro Kloss herbal, “Back to Eden,” (thinking it was a novel) and was amazed by the variety and power of medicinal plants. After working for 25 years as a graphic artist, she now enjoys helping customers and learning something new every day at Evergreen.
Karen De Braal
Karen loves her critters - she lives with five dogs and five cats and all but one came from an animal shelter she worked for in New Mexico. Her animal friends are her priority, along with helping people. For the animals, Karen Became a veterinary technician, worked at the Los Angeles Zoo, an animal shelter and on the Santa Fe Spay/Neuter Van. Her work with animals led her to a Bachelors Degree in Environmental Studies. She also took care of sick and dying friends, and this took her to a Masters Degree in traditional Chinese Medicine. She is a licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist. Aromatherapy and Acutonics are areas of special interest. Karen likes working at Evergreen Nutrition because she gets to meet and help a lot of people and it is a constant learning adventure. In her spare time Karen enjoys reading, gardening, hiking, playing the Native American flute and doing it all in the company of the animals.
Carole Jackson
I’ve worked at Evergreen Nutrition for quite some time and particularly have enjoyed the variety of projects. Interacting with customers, ordering products and creating displays, all are very satisfying. Making art has been one of the loves of my life. The mural on the exterior of the building and sculptures inside are my work. The current most exciting experience was zip lining-Woo Hoo.
Tony Towne
I grew up in Creswell with a love of the woods, sports and books. I went to Lane Community College and on to Oregon State earning a degree in forest management. I worked my way through school logging, planting trees and fighting fires. After school I worked on forest service Hot Shot fire crews for several years before suffering a disabling back injury. The healing journey brought me to Evergreen after my back surgery I asked for a job and was hired. I’ve enjoyed helping people and working for and with my kind co-workers. It’s been 17 good years. While I was disabled I taught myself to carve. I work in fossil ivory, wood, bone, shell and amber. I usually have a piece I’m working on in my pocket. White Lotus gallery here in Eugene has several of my carvings. I also have fun teaching juggling at the University of Oregon for the last 21 years. My wife Jane and I live and garden in the River Road neighborhood with 2 spoiled cats-Sparky and Lucky. We have 3 grand- kids
Kelley Vahradian
Born in Syracuse, N.Y. and raised in Southern California, I migrated to Oregon in the late 70’s. Living in the small costal town of Port Orford, there were few options for organic food or natural health alternatives. After belonging to a food buying club for 10 years, I joined 3 others to start a natural foods grocery store, which also included herbs and supplements, mercantile, and a café. This became a gathering place for like minded folks, and our kids all helped run the store! Working at Evergreen Nutrition these past 3½ years has expanded my knowledge of health and healing and been a great opportunity for me to continue learning and growing healthier! Great people to work with! Besides my interest in natural health I enjoy sewing, gardening, the ocean and forests, family and friends.
Carolyn Clearwater
Nutrition and holistic health have been a long time interest for me. I’ve been at Evergreen Nutrition for 13 years and have worked at other nutritional stores before coming here. Being in nature, hiking and my love for animals bring me much joy! I also love and have studied metaphysics most of my life. In addition to working at Evergreen I have a pet-sitting business.
Melissa Sue Brewer
I grew up in Arizona and was a very active child, always on the move. I could spend hours outside enjoying the world around me. I’ve had an early interest in herbology, comes from my grandmother and my mother. I believe that health is so important for the body, mind and spirit connection. I love Oregon, such a wonderful place to be. I’m a mother of two amazing boys. I enjoy creating art, sewing, felting, wild crafting, gardening, Nia and exploring the forests and oceans. I love working at Evergreen Nutrition, my co-workers are such amazing people. My knowledge grows everyday, there is so much to learn! I love connecting with people and helping them to help themselves to a healthier life.
Paul Gorman
Originally from New York, Paul has called the Pacific Northwest home for nearly 20 years. His interest in nutrition and herbalism was honed partly here at Evergreen Nutrition where many years ago he would spend hours wistfully admiring the selection of products. After stints as a Veterinary Assistant and varied restaurant jobs, Paul pursued his love of natural healing in the supplement industry in Seattle for a time before returning to Eugene. He is very excited to be part of Evergreen Nutrition and to have the opportunity to help people achieve better health through nutrition and herbs. When not working, he enjoys exploring Oregon’s forests, respectfully wild-crafting herbs and medicinal mushrooms, reading, writing and just being in the Willamette Valley.
Barbara Edmonds
I joined the Evergreen staff on April Fools Day 2007 and I love absolutely everything about my job
my co-workers, our wonderful customers, my employers, even my work schedule is perfect! Although I didn’t come to the job with as much knowledge and experience in the field as many of my co-workers, I have learned a lot in my time here and I continue to learn more every day.
Eugene has been my home for over half my life
but I was born in Tokyo and lived there for 4 years before my parents returned to the states where I spent my early school years in California’s Bay Area. My college years were spent at UC Davis where I earned a BA in sociology and psychology as well as an elementary teaching credential. I was also lucky enough to live in Austin, Texas for a few years before moving to Eugene. I have a 36 year old daughter who spends her time in Ashland and an 11 year old dog who spends much of her time in my lap.
I’ve had a wide variety of jobs over many years from being a greeter at a Wild West amusement park to operating my own home-based day care center for infants and toddlers.
Other jobs include working as a counselor on a crisis hotline, teaching in public and private schools, and even spending three years in the early 80's stocking and ringing up groceries at Eugene’s own Sundance Natural Foods where I was able to feed my growing interest in nutrition-based health and healing.
When I think back over my various work experiences, I realize the common thread that runs through them all is customer service.
The thing I enjoyed most about any job I’ve ever had is being of service to the customers and somehow brightening their day, whether that meant a friendly smile while ringing up their groceries or just while saying “Howdy pardner, welcome to Frontierland”; offering an attentive ear and my best advice to depressed callers on the crisis hotline; being a patient and creative teacher to the children in my classrooms; cooing and singing to babies while I rocked and diapered them; or easing the anxiety of new parents who came to my day care filled with questions and concerns. What I have loved most about all those various jobs was doing the job to the best of my ability and making a connection, however brief, with the person I was serving.
In my off-work hours I enjoy going for walks with my friends and my dog
reading good books and watching my favorite tv shows, making fruit pies in the summer and hearty soups in the winter, and going to Saturday Market, Lord Leebrick, Actors Cabaret, and the Bijou. Since 1979 my yearly vacation has been spent at the Oregon Country Fair.
