The original Fraser, Michigan location opened in 1973 and could only accommodate 45 patrons. With authentic recipes from Delia’s parents, Consuelo and Rosalio Rendon, and financial backing from George’s parents, George, Sr. and Lila Martin, word began to spread and El Charro began to grow. In 1978, the capacity doubled in sized to 90 seats. A new 60-seat restaurant with a convenient drive-thru window opened in 1980 in St. Clair Shores. By 1992, the original Fraser location, still not large enough to accommodate the growing crowds, led to the construction of a new 240-seat restaurant in downtown Fraser. The most recent location in Macomb, with seating for 120 patrons, celebrated its one-year anniversary in 2005.
