Gene Dunston is the man responsible for bringing mesquite broiled steaks to Texas in the mid-1950's. He succeeded by combining a great tasting steak with an affordable price and he has continued to do just that with his original location on Harry Hines Boulevard for almost 50 years. In the early days, you'd find Gene cutting mesquite by day and grilling steaks by night. But that's a whole story in itself! In 1998, Gene considered renovating Dunston's like he had done several times in the past. But this time, he made the decision to completely rebuild. At the same time, he decided to add something new to his menu - prime beef.
