Originally from Stockholm, Sweden, chef Fredrik Berselius has spent most of his culinary career in New York City, bringing his love for nature to his urban surroundings through food. Berselius opened Aska – Swedish for 'ashes' – in its first rendition in 2012, garnering acclaim for bridging the culinary heritage of his upbringing with the immediate environs of his Brooklyn address. Within a year, Aska earned Berselius his first Michelin star, and Bon Appetit named Aska one of the ten best new restaurants in America. In the summer of 2016, Aska reopened in a new, bilevel space – with a main dining room, garden, and cellar bar – located in a restored 1860s warehouse building near the edge of the Williamsburg Bridge. Within a few months, Aska earned Berselius his second Michelin star, being one of only ten restaurants in the city to hold the honor. Shortly thereafter, Aska received a three star New York Times review by Pete Wells. With an emphasis on ingredients from the surrounding Northeastern U.S. region and influenced by Berselius' Scandinavian homeland, Aska offers a distinctive dining experience through a procession of courses prepared from an open kitchen and served to guests of only ten tables each night. Berselius recently released his first cookbook, Aska, published by Phaidon, in the spring of 2018.

FAQ
Where is Aska located?
Aska is located in Williamsburg, Brooklyn at 47 South 5th Street between Kent & Wythe Avenues (closer to Wythe), across the street from the Williamsburg Bridge. The restaurant exterior is black.
Are you able to accommodate guests with food allergies?
Our kitchen will make every effort to plan accommodations for guests with severe food allergies provided that we have at least 72 hours notice to prepare. When booking a reservation through Tock, please note all food allergies in as much detail as possible. If you are booking less than three days in advance, we kindly ask that you contact us prior to booking a reservation at reservations@askanyc.com. Due to the quality and availability of our ingredients, some of which are foraged, we may not be able to plan accommodations for food allergies with less than 72 hours notice. Pescatarian, vegetarian, and vegan menus may be selected when booking.
Do you accommodate larger groups?
We accept bookings in our private dining room, adjacent to the garden and main dining room, for parties of up to 8 guests. When booked for a private event, our cellar lounge accommodates seated parties of up to 16 guests, or up to 34 guests for cocktails. For all private event inquiries, including the option of a full restaurant buyout, please email us at events@askanyc.com.
Do you charge for reservations in advance?
All reservation deposits are paid in advance and immediately charged to the credit card entered during the booking process, along with any optional supplements purchased at the time of booking. Reservation deposits, while non-refundable, are fully applied to the check. Any additional purchases made while at the restaurant will be charged that same evening.
Can I cancel a reservation I purchased?
All sales are final. Refunds cannot be made for cancellations due to medical, family, or business emergencies or other unexpected events. For out-of-town visitors, we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance. In the event that you are unable to join us on the date of your reservation, you are welcome either to reschedule, provided that we have at least 72 hours notice, or to sell or gift the reservation through your user profile on Tock.
How far in advance can I book a reservation?
We accept reservations up to two months in advance. We open our books for reservations on the first day of each month (for the following month). If your desired date is unavailable, we encourage you to join our wait list via Tock. Please note that reservations for parties of 3 or more typically have greater availability than do parties of 2.
How can I book a reservation for one?
We offer one booking per night, Tuesday through Thursday, for single diners. Please email us at reservations@askanyc.com to inquire about availability.
What is the dress code?
We kindly ask for no shorts, ball caps or athletic attire. Although we do not require suit jackets, we do like to encourage our guests to dress up for the occasion
What is your corkage fee?
We welcome guests to bring up to two 750ml bottles (or one magnum) of their own wine. Our corkage fee is $75 per 750ml bottle ($150 for a magnum), gratuity included. Please provide us with advance notice if you plan to bring your own wine.
Can I bring children?
Children age 10 and older are welcome at Aska, although we do not have a children's menu available and require all younger guests to have the same menu as the adults at the restaurant. While we have had younger diners enjoy the menu fully, the average duration of the meal and the amount of food may not be for most children. Because of the small, intimate nature of our dining room, we do not allow infants or children younger than 10.
Do you require reservations for the cellar bar or garden?
Our cellar bar and garden are open to guests on a walk-in basis, no reservation required. We offer a highly curated selection of wines, spirits, cocktails, and beer, as well as a small menu of shareable dishes available à la carte. Please note that the garden is open seasonally during the warmer months.
Do you offer gift certificates?
We offer gift certificates for select dining experiences. Please contact us by email at reservations@askanyc.com to purchase or redeem a gift certificate.
