Animal Medical Center first opened its doors in 1986, by founder Dr. Jerry Weil.
Since then we have been providing top notch professional veterinary service to Great Bend, Barton County and surrounding counties. Today, AMC has grown into a regional, progressive 3 doctor, mixed animal practice known throughout the area for our commitment to excellence in service and quality veterinary care.
We are a full service veterinary center offering small animal services that include
medicine, laser surgery, ultrasound, endoscopy, digital x-ray, dentistry, in-house lab, chiropractics, boarding, and grooming. Our equine services include: medicine, surgery, lameness evaluation, reproduction, chiropractics, power dentistry, ultrasound, digital x-ray, and endoscopy. Our bovine services include: in-house working facility, feedlot, stocker and cow/calf consulting services, benchmark databases, reproductive services, heifer development, complete bull evaluations, medicine, and surgery.

Our veterinary clinic and animal hospital has three fabulous veterinarians, Drs. Nels Lindberg, Matt Fehr, and John Allen Ferguson, who licensed, experienced Great Bend veterinarians.

What to Expect
When you are looking for a veterinary care clinic you should be able to count on superior care and excellent service.
We at Animal Medical Center in Great Bend KS have assembled an expert team of veterinary professionals to bring you the best possible healthcare for your pet. We have a state of the art veterinary facility which is clean, comfortable, and efficient. Call 620-792-1265 to schedule an appointment and we will find a time that is convenient for you.
Once a year, you should take your pet in for a check-up.
This will include a full physical exam, and may include teeth and gum cleaning if needed. Dr. Nels Lindberg will check the health of your pet from head to tail, and you will be very happy you came to Animal Medical Center for service.
Bring in any medical history you have of your pet when you come to our vet clinic.
It's best to keep a journal of your pet's health throughout his or her life, including behavioral shifts. If you have something like this, share it with our team. If not, let us know everything that you think will be important. Dr. Lindberg can still work with whatever information you have.
In some circumstances, Dr. Lindberg will refer you to a specialist who has advanced expertise in areas such as internal medicine or surgery.
Payment Options
Payment is expected when services are rendered. In order to focus on our patients' needs, customer service and minimizing costs, we do not bill.
We accept debit cards, credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express) checks and cash. All cards must be signed by the owner of the card.
When unexpected illness strikes a pet, unexpected expense strikes as well.

Meet Our Team
Dr. Nels Lindberg
Dr. Nels Lindberg, senior partner and veterinarian, grew up in Lewis, Ks, and attended Fort Hays state university for undergrad, then graduated from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Nels professional interests are feedlot and stocker consultation, equine dentistry, small animal surgery, as well as good small animal medicine. He is active in First Christian Church of Great Bend, singing as allowed and has been a past Deacon and Elder. He also is currently on the Great Bend City Council. Being an Eagle Scout, he is also a supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. Dr. Nels serves and has served on numerous veterinary advisory boards. His last highlight was giving the Commencement Address for the Kansas State University College of Vetereinary Medicine. He enjoys going to the lake, as well as the mountains with his family, hunting. But, most of all, enjoys KSU sporting events. His wonderful and supporting wife is Karen, and has a set of twins, Nash and MacKenzie. Dr. Nels’s family pets are toy Aussies named Sam and Blue, and Nash's horse Scooter.
Dr. Matt Fehr
Dr. Matt Fehr, an AMC partner and veterinarian, was born and raised in Emporia KS and attended Emporia State University for undergrad. He joined the practice in June 2006 after graduating from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Matt is certified in animal chiropractics and enjoys both small animal and equine surgery as well as cow/calf herd work and consultation. In his off time Dr. Matt enjoys outdoor sports and spending time with his lovely wife Jamie and their two children Trevor and Jaxon. Dr. Matt, also being an Eagle Scout, devotes volunteer time supporting Trevor's Boy Scout Troop. Dr. Matt’s family pets are a cat named Alley and a Great Dane named Zoey.
Dr. John Allen Ferguson
Dr. John Allen Ferguson is an associate veterinarian at AMC. A native of Mississippi, he graduated with an MBA from Christian Brothers University in Memphis TN and a Veterinary degree from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. John Allen brings a wealth of knowledge in small animal internal medicine, reproduction, and preventive care. He also has extensive interest in large animal production medicine, reproduction, and overall herd health. In his free time, Dr. John Allen enjoys all of the outdoor activities that Kansas offers. He is an Eagle Scout and a lifelong supporter of Boy Scouts and looks forward to getting involved in the Great Bend community. He is married to Jessica Ferguson, who is a English teacher at Great Bend High School. Together they enjoy their three wonderful dogs, Sugar, Lucy, and Twist.
Jill Engleman
Jill is the Practice Manager for AMC and has been since 1995. Jill handles product sales, billing, inventory management, and the day to day running of AMC. She grew up in near-by LaCrosse, KS and moved to Great Bend after graduating from high school. She currently resides on her 160 acre farm and small commercial cow-calf operation southwest of Great Bend. Jill has a son, Brett, who is attending Kansas State University majoring in Hospitality Management with a minor in Business. Jill enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and working on her place. Jill’s pets include one dog (Cooper) and three cats (June, Yogie, and the famous Bubba).
Jolene Johnson
Jolene is the receptionist and the welcoming face of AMC. Jolene can help you schedule an appointment, check in patients, visit with you about our small animal products, and she can help you speak to a doctor. Jolene is a lifelong Great Bend area resident. She and her husband, C.D., a rural letter carrier, live on the family farm and have three grown children Adassa and her husband Josh who live in Manhattan and work at K-State, Eric and his wife Holly who live in Hutchinson and Evan who recently graduated from Wichita State and will start Grad School and 1 granddaughter Sheridan. Jolene enjoys spending time with Sheridan and following K-State sports. Jolene and C.D. have Tiki the 3 1/2 pound long hair Chihuahua.
Sara Osborn
Sara is one of the animal care givers at AMC but is also runs our in-house BVD lab. Sara joined the staff of AMC in the fall of 2008. She enjoys working with horses and small animals as well. Sara is originally from Abbyville, Kansas and is a graduate from Hutchinson Community College. Sara loves gardening and showing her mare Regan. She also enjoys spending time with her other two horses Allie and Addie and her dogs Skip, Dakota and Eddie.
Jessica Harrison
Jessica is the Veterinary Technician at AMC that joined the practice in 2011. Jessica is here to assist with large and small animal appointments, surgeries, and all our patients needs. She enjoys performing laboratory diagnostics and dental cleaning. Jessica loves meeting new clients and watching their pets grow. She is from Otis, Kansas. She has three children; Halee is 8, Hayden is 6, and Cannon is 2. Jessica has a degree in Medical Laboratory Science and Microbiology. Jessica currently resides on a farm outside of Chase, Kansas with her family and many animals; including chickens, ducks, pig, goat, dogs and cats. In her free time you will find her fishing with her family or outside playing with her animals.
Sara Gager
Sara is a registered veterinary technician. She joined the practice in February 2013. She grew up in Hays, Ks. After spending a year at FHSU for her prerequisites, she moved to Glenwood Springs, CO to receive her veterinary technician training. She graduated in 2011 and not long after passed her state board exam and certification to become a registered veterinary technician. Her passion is working with small animals, but you'll see her time to time helping with cattle and equine. She really enjoys dentistry and assisting with surgeries. In her spare time, her and her boyfriend are often traveling, going to concerts, or camping at Lake Wilson. She owns two cats (Gage and Mrs. Cat) and one dog (Shadow). And she also shares a dog (Indy) with her boyfriend! All of these she has rescued.
