The name of Puerto de Acajutla comes from the Harbor of cajutla in the estate of Sonsonate, El Salvador. Acajutla's name comes from Acaxual, " Place where the giant red sprouts are abundant". The native population used to live from hunting, fishing. With time Acajutla has changed and modernized its look and it has become the principal maritime harbor of El Salvador.
